Mal-Discharge Symptom on Plasma Panel

   Do you know, what is the meaning of mal discharge symptom on plasma panel? Some people will say it is color dots or white dots on dark area and some people will say it is green pixels on brightness areas and so on.

Actually the Mal-Discharge symptom can defined by the color pixels/dots (green, red, white & etc) on the dark or brightness areas.

Below is some repair tips for fixing the Mal Discharge problems:

** For LG PDP42V5 Plasma Panel:

1) Symptom: The tv dark picture with color noise.
       Solution: Replace the Y-SUS and Z-SUS boards.
2) Symptom: LG MZ-42PZ44 Plasma Tv with colorful pixels in the picture, in particular in dark areas.
      Solution:  If voltages adjusted correctly, but Y-SUS board replaced unsuccessfully. Then replace Y-SUS board again and reduce display voltages in particular VA.
3) Symptom: Grundig PW1109410TOP Plasma TV has color pixels in dark picture parts.
       Solution: The PSU board replace by spare board. VA voltage on both pins is 61V. Values are set exactly , VA=65v, Vpp=188v. However,  there is a color snowy picture in dark grey scale. So the set Vpp to 172.2v.

** For LG PDP42V6 Plasma Panel:
 
1) Symptom: Green & red pixels on grey areas or when brightness changes fast. But not visible these pixels when picture is black.
       Solution: Adjust pots SET_UP and SET_DN on Y-SUS board until pixels quantity is smaller.

2) Symptom: Color noise in the picture, with dark background via AV and HF, but TXT ok. Particularly severe with brightness fluctuations from black to white.
      Solution: Adjust noise to minimal using pot VR1 and pot VR2 on Y-SUS board.
 
3) Symptom: A lot of small colour points in the picture.
       Solution: Replace Z-SUS board and C72 (33uF) on Y-SUS board, even it is measure normal. Re-adjust pot SET_DN on Y-SUS board to solve the problem.
 
4) Symptom: Many green spots on screen. Zoom effect.
       Solution: Adjust VS voltage for panel and Y-SUS board.
 
5) Symptom: Dark picture with color noise.
       Solution: Replace the Y-SUS and Z-SUS boards.
 
6) Symptom: Whiter dots mainly on dark areas.
       Solution: Set-up Y-SUS and VS voltage.
 
7) Symptom: The LG RZ-42PX11 has green dots during switch-over or dark pictures.
       Solution: Adjust voltages and replace all 33uF electrolytic capacitors on the Y-SUS board, also various 1000uF electrolytic capacitors on Y board. These bad electrolytic capacitors can be easily detected with Capacitor ESR tester.
 
8) Symptom: The Gericom GTV4271 Plasma TV picture with color dots, in particular with dark picture sections.
       Solution: Set the VS voltage to 180V.
 
9) Symptom: Many spots in picture.
       Solution: They are no adjustment possible. Replace the CTRL board.
 
10) Symptom: Tevion MD34598 Plasma TV has color dots in the picture, light up during start and disappear after a while.
         Solution: The components on the Y-SUS board near voltage regulator VR1 are heat/cold sensitive. So adjust the voltage regulator.
 
11) Symptom: Green and white pixels with moving picture. Ok with static picture.
         Solution: [Y-Drive sub board is replaced]. Replace Y-SUS board. (HyundaiImagequest HPT4241 Plasma TV with PDP42V6 Panel).
 
** For LG PDP42V8 Plasma Panel:

1) Symptom: LG 42PC1D Plasma TV has red dots on dark background.
       Solution: The Y-SUS board replaced and capacitors in PSU replaced, the problem still exist. Replace the CTRL board.

Another Solution for LG Plasma Panel Mal-Discharge with Control Board ROM Upgrade:

If youre experiencing a mal-discharge problem that cannot be eliminated after adjusting all adjustments correctly and according to the specific Panel voltage label, then you should doing this step now. On this step, you must:
 
1)     Checked and correct back all the voltages same as Panel Voltage Label on the back of panel.
2)     You must has a JIG board (program installed) & the panel program/firmware.
3)     Jump the PSU STBY 5v (is standby 5v not M5V 5v) to the CTRL board.
4)     Disconnect the Y-SUS and Z-SUS board connector.
5)     Make sure all connection are connect correctly and the cable jump 5v STBY is install properly (you must refer to the manual for their destination position).
6)     Plug the power cord to tv and on the power.
7)     Computer or laptop with the JIG program and panel firmware prepared. You can program the CTRL board now.
8)     After successfully program the CTRL board, off the tv, unplug all connection for 5v STBY jumper wire and JIG cable too. Plug it back the Y-SUS and Z-SUS board cable connectors. Make sure all connection is normal as original setting and you can on the tv now.
 
After doing this step, your tv should back to normal now. If not, then you must change the appropriate boards like Y-SUS board, Z-SUS board or CTRL board or all these boards. You must first read the service manual before doing this steps.
